Net check-ins start at 20:00 UTC. We will not take check-ins any earlier, as it causes some people to actually not check in as they end up way down the list. Checking in at 2:30 in the afternoon to be at the top of the list is not fair to anyone.
If you’re on frequency, and the NCS isn’t available at 20:00 UTC, feel free to take a list to pass it on to the NCS when he/she arrives.
No more short time. Sorry, but there were some who just plain abused this option. If you as a Net Control choose to put someone at the top of the list, that’s fine. It’s your choice. Do remember that you could also take the short-time station just for the numbers and remind them to check back when they have time to stay and enjoy the net .
When calling for check-ins, it’s wise to specify that callers give their calls phonetically. This cuts dramatically down on missed and broken/butchered calls .
This preamble is by no means cut in stone. As net control, it’s your option to change or modify the preamble to suit your needs or tastes.
[PRE-NET]
Good afternoon! This is (CALLSIGN), net control station for the (WEEKDAY) edition of the Michigan Buzzards Roost Net. I am looking for early check-ins for the pre-net, anybody anywhere that I can hear. Call now...
[NET]
Ah, ah, ah! Don't touch that dial! Since 1934, the Michigan Buzzards Roost Net has been providing the amateur radio community with the best hour in radio! My clock on the wall says its 21:00 UTC and it's time for me to say...
Ladies and gentlemen, you have tuned to the Michigan Buzzards Roost Net. This net operates on or about 3930 KHz Monday through Friday and on Saturday on 3930 and Sunday on 3929 KHz as a roundtable.
Your Net Control Station this evening is (CALLSIGN) (CALLSIGN PHONETICS). My name is (NAME), and my QTH is (CITY, STATE).
All operators with a General class license or higher are welcome to check in and participate, as our purpose here is to promote friendship and fellowship among all radio amateurs. While not required, we use NetLogger during the nets to help keep things on track.
Information about the Michigan Buzzards Roost Net can be found on our website at:
www.michiganbuzzardsroost.com
Our net manager N8DC, Dave is constantly updating and tweaking the website, so check back often for the most up to date info. Donations toward the annual picnic and registration of our own domain name are much appreciated. This can be done via the website and PayPal, or by snail mail to N8DC whom is good on QRZ.
If you would like to become an official member, all it takes is 4 check-ins (in your lifetime). Note the dates and call signs of the NCS. Send these and a $5 donation to the net manager N8DC Dave. You will receive a very nice numbered certificate suitable for framing.
I will take a standby every 15 minutes so additional stations may check in. Before I take regular check-ins, I will take check-ins from mobiles. So far, I have (CALLSIGNS OF EARLY MOBILE CHECKINS). Any other mobiles please call now.
I will now take regular check-ins. So far, I have on the list (REG CALLS). Any other check-ins for the net please call now.
(At this point insert any announcements or other information.)
[15 MINUTE PAUSES]
At this time are there any additional check-ins for the Michigan Buzzards Roost Net? Call now.
[FIRST TIME CHECK-INS]
Welcome (OPERATOR'S NAME). Would anyone care to give a signal report and a welcome to the net?
[CLOSING]
At this time I will close the net. Please check in again tomorrow. This is (CALLSIGN) returning the frequency to normal amateur use. 73 to all.
